My most anticipated releases of the year (part 4) | Grabby Hands

Hello, beautiful people!

Today, I'm back with another of my Grabby Hands posts, where I talk about all of my most anticipated book releases. I am doing those every three months, so today I'm here to present to you my Fall 2018 edition, aka October to December* releases. Of course, it doesn't include every single new release for those months or anything, those are, of course, the books I need to get my hands on like... RIGHT NOW.

*it feels weird to write that, but as winter only starts on December 21st in the Northern hemisphere and not at the beginning of the month like my brain might think... it's how it's supposed to be.

Muse of Nightmares (Strange the Dreamer #2) by Laini Taylor
Published: October 2nd 2018 by Little Brown Books for Young Readers
Genres: young adult, fantasy

A few years ago, I fell in love with Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy, with her astonishing worlds and her beautiful writing. So of course, when Strange the Dreamer came out last year, I devoured it and it became one of my favourite books of the year. This duology follows Lazlo Strange, a librarian who has been dreaming of the mysterious and mythical city of Weep for his entire life and gets a chance to join an expedition that could answer all of his questions. It is such an excellent high fantasy so much - and I've become quite picky with those -, I cannot wait to see what will be in store for these characters and how their story will wrap up.

The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy (Montague Silblings #2) by Mackenzi Lee

Published: October 2nd 2018 by Katherine Tegen Books
Genres: young adult, historical fiction

Mackenzi Lee is one of my favourite writers out there and I admire her so much, because I share her love for history and studied it as well, and she's one of my biggest writing inspirations. I really loved The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue (even though not as much as This Monstrous Thing that you should read if you still haven't!!) when I read it last year, especially Felicity, Monty's sister, because she was so much fun. This historical novel, which is set in the first half of the 18th century, will follow Felicity, who wants to avoid a marriage proposal and enroll in medical school, she seems to get an opportunity, but also takes part in a perilous journey.

The Corset by Laura Purcell
Published: October 4th 2018 by Raven Books
Genres: historical fiction, mystery

I recently read The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell and it left me craving for more of her words. The Corset, a Victorian thriller follows Dorothea, a young lady whose charity work leads to a prison, where she will have the chance to explore her fascination with phrenology and test her hypothesis that the shape of a person's skull can cast a light on their darkest crimes. But when she meets teenage seamstress Ruth, she is faced with another theory: that it is possible to kill with a needle and thread. For Ruth attributes her crimes to a supernatural power inherent in her stitches. Dorothea's belief in rationality and the power of redemption, as she wonders whether Ruth is mad or a murderer, a victim or a villain.

What If It's Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera
Published: October 9th 2018 by HarperTeen
Genres: young adult, contemporary, romance

I am beyond excited about this one, because two amazing YA contemporary authors, namely Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera, are teaming up! I've loved every single one of Becky's novels in the past and I really want to read Adam's (I read More Happy Than Not, but didn't like it, I hope this one will encourage me to try again  don't be mad at me for this). It follows Arthur, a Broadway fan who is only in New York for the summer, and Ben, who recently broke up with his boyfriend. The two of them meet at the post office, then get reunited... But what if they can't nail the first date? Or second? Or third? But what if it works out between them? I am beyond excited about this one! ALSO. The title is reminiscent of a Dear Evan Hansen song, so how do I not read this, I'm asking you?

Published: October 9th 2018 by Poppy
Genres: young adult, contemporary

Speaking of Broadway fans... A novel inspired by the amazing musical Dear Evan Hansen is coming out! If you don't know this musical... Well first, please go listen to it, because what have you been doing all this time? Just kidding, but please listen to it. Then, second, it's about Evan Hansen, a high school senior who is drawn into a family's grief over the loss of their son and is believed to be his best friend, because of a letter that was never supposed to be seen. This is an amazing story about grief, mental health, authenticity and the struggle to belong anywhere. I have NO IDEA how it'll be like, but considering how much I adore this musical, I have high hopes!

Archenemies (Renegades #2) by Marissa Meyer
Published: November 6th 2018 by Feiwel & Friends
Genres: young adult, fantasy

I adored Renegades so much, so I'm definitely anticipating its sequel! This trilogy is set in a world where some people have extraordinary abilities, which led society to go astray. Out of the ruins of that society emerged the Renegades, a syndicate of prodigies which established peace and order... But the villains they overthrew are still underground. It follows Nova, who hates the Renegades and wants revenge. As she gets closer to her target, she meets Adrian, a Renegade boy who believes in justice and in her. Renegades was the best YA book I had read in quite a while, so I'm definitely hoping the sequel will live up to it!

Pulp by Robin Talley
Published: November 13th 2018 by Harlequin Teen
Genres: young adult, historical fiction

After reading Lies We Tell Ourselves this summer, I needed more YA historical fiction with a f/f romance. I was beyond excited when I heard about Pulp, which is about Janet, who lives in 1955 Washington, D.C. and keeps the love she shares with her best friend a success. As she discovers novels telling the story of women falling in love with each other, she decides to write and publish her own story, even though she might risk her entire life. Sixty-two years later, Abby can't stop thinking about her senior subject, which is about classic 1950s lesbian pulp fiction. She feels especially connected to an author who write under a pseudonym and becomes determined to track her down and discover her true identity. I feel like this one might become a favourite and certainly hope so, I cannot wait for November!

The Dark Days Deceit (Lady Helen #3) by Alison Goodman
Published: November 20th 2018 by Viking Books for Young Readers
Genres: young adult, historical fiction, fantasy

The number of sequels I've included is astonishing, considering how few of them I have read this year, but maybe it might motivate me? I hope so. I cannot wait to get my hands on The Dark Days Deceit, which is the final book in the Lady Helen trilogy. This trilogy is about Lady Helen, who is swept away in demon-hunting adventures in the first book and it is set during the Regency era (!!). In a way, it reminds me a little of The Infernal Devices and I adore this type of stories (*cough* Something Strange and Deadly *cough*). I'm so curious to see how Helen's story will come to a close and it's such a perfect Fall read!

Queen of Air and Darkness (The Dark Artifices #3) by Cassandra Clare
Published: December 4th 2018 by Margaret K. McElderry Books
Genres: young adult, fantasy

Last, but certainly not least... The last book in The Dark Artifices is finally coming. I don't really need to present this one to you now, don't I? I'm so happy it's the very last book I'm excited about this year, because it means so much more, in a way. I have missed these characters so much and considering how it ended and how Cassie left us waiting for that long? I NEED IT ON RELEASE DAY. I hope I'll be able to drop everything to just read it like for the previous two and if someone spoils me... Oh just don't even try. (Yeah, I haven't bothered with a summary, but you know... SHADOWHUNTERS).

What are your most anticipated releases from October to December?
Are you excited for any of those?

Lots of love,
Lucie

My most anticipated releases of the year (part 3) // Grabby Hands

Hello, beautiful people!

Today, I'm back with another of my Grabby Hands posts, where I talk about all of my most anticipated book releases. I am doing those every three months, so today I'm here to present to you my Summer 2018 edition, aka July to September releases. Of course, it doesn't include every single new release for those months or anything, those are, of course, the books I need to get my hands on like... RIGHT NOW.

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik

Published: July 7th 2018 by Del Rey
Genres: adult, fantasy, retelling

At long last. I adored Naomi Novik's Uprooted, which came out forever ago (and by that I mean: three years ago) and I had been wanting to read something else by her. Apparently, this one is inspired by Lithuanian/Russian folklore (from what I gathered from early reviews, I might be wrong) and follows Miryem, who comes from a family of moneylenders and is sent to collect money from villagers. For unknown reasons, she manages to change silver to gold, which leads her story to be tangled with creatures that haunt the wood and their king. *dramatic music* Spinning Silver sounds absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to devour it!

Sea Witch by Sarah Henning

Published: July 31st 2018 by Katherine Tegen Books
Genres: young adult, fantasy, retelling

Excuse me, but I've been waiting to read it forever, because it's a villain origin story and I adore those so much. It's about Evie, who has been casted out as a witch ever since her best friend Anna drowned. One day, she meets a girl with an uncanny resemblance to Anna and is convinced her best friend survived, even though the other girl denies it. Both of them meet charming princes and believe at a chance at their happily ever after, but Anna has secrets of her own and Evie would do anything to help her. The blurb says: "The rise of Hans Christian Andersen’s iconic villainess is a heart-wrenching story of friendship, betrayal, and a girl pushed beyond her limits—to become a monster." and if it isn't enough to convince you, I don't know what will.

Bellewether by Susanna Kearsley

Published: August 7nd 2018 by Sourcebooks Landmark
Genres: historical fiction

If you don't know, Susanna Kearsley is my favourite historical fiction writer as well as writing inspiration. Yup. No biggies. So of course, Bellewether has been one of my most anticipated reads of 2018 ever since I heard she was working on a new project. This one is set in 1759, in the North American colonies, during the Seven Years War which opposed France and Britain. When French officers are brought as prisoners to Long Island, it changes Lydia Wilde's life, because she eventually develops feelings for a French-Canadian lieutenant. Centuries later, their story has become a local legend, that Charley, the new curator of the Wilde House Museum, is set on exploring to understand what happened. I actually got an ARC of it and am planning to read it in July, so I'll be talking to you about it and fangirling about Susanna Kearley's writing some more very soon on here!

These Rebel Waves (Stream Raiders #1) by Sara Raasch

Published: August 7th 2018 by Balzer + Bray
Genres: young adult, fantasy

You know you've been waiting for a book for a long time when you've been following the Pinterest inspiration board of it when it didn't even have a title yet. Anyway, Sara Raasch is the author of the Snow Like Ashes' trilogy, which I really liked, and I'm so happy that she's finally publishing more books, especially this one, which sounds like the book of my dreams or something. It has a) pirates b) a dichotomy between a magic land/a country driven by religion c) an island d) a black market e) conspiracies. It sounds absolutely amazing and I can't wait to get my hands on it!

Dance of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson

Published: August 7th 2018 by Henry Holt and Co. (BYR)
Genres: young adult, fantasy

Another author whose previous trilogy I adore has a new book coming out. *throws confettis into the air* Dance of Thieves is the first book in a new duology set in the same world that The Remnant Chronicles (you know, The Kiss of Deception, The Heart of Betrayal and The Beauty of Darkness --> I want to reread them again), so of course, I need it. The main characters are a reformed thief and the young leader of an outlaw dynasty? Give it to me now. It's gonna be so much fun and I have my fingers crossed that we'll see some of the characters of The Remnant Chronicles again. Oh wait, I have a reason to reread them now. I have to, just in case.

City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab

Published: August 28th 2018 by Scholastic
Genres: middle grade, fantasy

I mean, it's a new Victoria Schwab novel, so, I don't really have to explain why I need it so badly, right? It follows Cassidy, a young girl whose parents are a sort of (inept) ghost-hunting team, but she can actually see ghosts, her best friend Jacob is one. The family heads to Edinburgh, which is very haunted, and Cassidy meets another girl who can also see the dead and tells her that her job is to send ghosts permanently beyond the Veil. Cass isn't quite so sure about it, but she joins a fight against the Red Raven, a sinister being who haunts the city. I am beyond excited to read this novel, it's been some time since I last read middle grade and I'm so curious about the story, especially as it's set in Edinburgh!

edited by Jessica Spotswood and Tess Sharpe

Published: August 28th 2018 by Harlequin Teen
Genres: anthology, young adult, fantasy

I love YA anthologies so much, I mention some of them often enough in my most anticipated releases (as I'm typing this, I've been reading the All Out anthology, so, see?). This one has fifteen contemporary, historical, and futuristic stories featuring witchy heroines who are diverse in race, class, sexuality, religion, geography, and era. I don't know that many of the authors who contributed, but I've read and loved Emery Lord's novels, Robin Talley's Lies We Tell Ourselves and previous short stories I've read from Anna-Marie McLemore and Jessica Spotswood. I'm so excited to discover even more YA authors, it always motivates me more to pick up some of their novels (I'll be on the lookout for Elizabeth May and Zoraida Córdova the most).

As She Ascends by Jodi Meadows

Published: September 11th 2018 by Katherine Tegen Books
Genres: young adult, fantasy

I've had trouble with sequels this year. Either I just don't pick them up, or they've been disappointing me (there are exceptions to this rule, but I can think of... one). Nevertheless, there are always authors I trust and Jodi Meadows is one of them. I adored the first book in the Fallen Isles trilogy, Before She Ignites, as well as everything she wrote, so I have faith it will put me back on tracks with sequels. This trilogy has dragons and secrets and a main character with anxiety, I devoured the first one and I can't wait to know what happens next. Moreover, the truth is, I quite miss fantasy. I haven't read a lot of it lately because I've been disappointed by some novels... But I miss it and a world I love will help.

Wildcard by Marie Lu

Published: September 18th by G.P. Putnam's Sons Books for Young Readers
Genres: young adult, science fiction

Warcross was amazing. I'm not really surprised because Marie Lu is such a talented author and I've always adored her books, but I'm so happy it was the case for Warcross as well. I don't read a lot of science-fiction type of books, but I adored the world it was set in (reading about video games is the best) as well as the characters. It kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end (even though I had guessed part of the plot twist) and I've needed the sequel ever since then. September can't come fast enough!

For a Muse of Fire by Heidi Heilig

Published: September 25th 2018  by Greenwillow Books
Genres: young adult, fantasy

I read Heidi Heilig's debut, The Girl From Everywhere, when it came out a few years ago and really enjoyed it, so I was curious to know what the author would come up next, this one definitely sounds interesting! It follows Jetta, who comes from a troupe of shadow players, it seems like she's moving puppets without string or stick. In truth, she is able to see the souls of people who recently passed away and bind them to puppets with her blood. However, practicing the old ways has been forbidden ever since the colonial army conquered Jetta's country, but she manages to earn a spot aboard the royal ship where she'll have to hide the truth on her powers. But as rebellion seethes and as Jetta meets a young smuggler, she will face truths and decisions that she never imagined—and safety will never seem so far away. This trilogy is set in a world inspired by Asian cultures and French colonialism, it has a bipolar heroine and the story is told through different formats. I really cannot wait to get my hands on this one.

Published: September 25th 2018 by Delacorte Press
Genres: young adult, historical fiction, retelling

Kiersten White is an author I've been keeping my eyes on for the past few years, I read Illusions of Fate and And I Darken* by her, which I adored. Her stories always intrigue me so much and The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein is no exception. This one follows Elizabeth Lavenza, who has had a tough life and is on the verge of being thrown out into the streets, until she is brought to the home of Victor Frankenstein, a boy who has everything, except a friend. She becomes her friend and is taken in by his family, but as the years pass, her survival depends on managing Victor's dangerous temper and entertaining his every whim. I am so excited about this one because the main character is a secondary character from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and I so trust Kiersten White with this.

*I haven't read Now I Rise, the second book in that trilogy, yet, but I've decided to binge-read it when I also get the third one! I cannot wait, the first novel was so promising.

Vengeful by V.E. Schwab

Published: September 25th 2018by Tor
Genres: adult, science fiction

I am beyond excited to have not only one, but TWO of Victoria Schwab's novels to talk about in this post. I can't believe that Vengeful is now a written novel and that we will get our hands on it in a few months. I am so curious to see where the story will go next, as for years, it wasn't sure whether we would get Vengeful or not and that it got rewritten many times to make it as amazing as possible. It's been quite a while since we got a new novel by Victoria Schwab, I can't wait to drown in her words again and to be surprised by everything that goes down. Also, it gives me another reason to reread Vicious, so cheers to that! If you haven't read Vicious yet, just go for it, don't try to figure out what it's about or anything, JUST READ IT.

Are you excited for any of these books?
What are your most anticipated releases for July, August and September?

My most anticipated releases of 2018 (part 2) // Grabby Hands #10

Hello, beautiful people!

Back in December, I decided to revive my Grabby Hands feature where I talk about all of my most anticipated book releases. I am now doing those posts every three months, which is why today, I'm going to talk to you about my most anticipated releases from April to June; it's the Spring edition, I guess. This isn't the list of all the books I'm anticipating, because it would be too long, but the ones I really need to get my hands on like... Now.

Dread Nation by Justina Ireland - April 3rd
Genres: young adult, historical fiction, fantasy

Dread Nation is an alternate history novel set after the American Civil War... Except there are zombies. Because of the new laws, Afro-American and Native-American children are forced to attend combat schools to put down the dead and it follows a girl who attended one of those schools, returning home when she finds herself in the middle of a conspiracy. I know many people don't like books with zombies and I thought it would be my case until I read Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard (btw, READ IT), that was also historical fiction. I've always wanted to read more novels set during the American Civil War, so the time period interests me, even though it's alternate history, and it seems to focus a lot on oppression as well. I've seen great things about this one, I cannot wait to read it.

Circe by Madeline Miller - April 10th
Genres: fantasy, historical fiction, retelling

Okay, I have to admit that I have yet to read The Song of Achilles, even though I've seen people on bookstagram raving about it. My only excuse is that I need to get the Bloomsbury Modern Classics edition and well... I'm not ready for this book to destroy me, like it did for everyone else. Anyway, I'm quite curious about Circe, which follows the Greek mythology character of the same name, a witch who was banished by Zeus to an island, where her path is intertwined with many important characters: Hermes, Daedalus or even Odysseus. I've heard so many great things about Madeline Miller's writing, I'm so ready to jump into this one!

Last Shot: A Han and Lando Novel by Daniel José Older - April 17th
Genres: science-fiction

It's no secret that I've been completely obsessed with Star Wars ever since Episode VIII came out last December (I already loved Star Wars, but it got so much worse). Last Shot is coming out right before Solo: A Star Wars story and I have to say that I'm really not excited about that movie*, but I added Last Shot on my TBR because I really want to read more Star Wars novels. Apparently, it follows different timelines and as I've always been curious about Han's character, I knew that I wanted to read it, but I didn't need it right this instant, you know? AND THEN. We got an excerpt involving a two years old Ben Solo. BEN SOLO. I adore him so much, he's my ultimate weakness, I need every single piece of information on him. I need to know everything. I'm so obsessed. Maybe it'll help me keep faith until Episode IX is released, but let's be real, I'll just cry every time they talk about him**.

*maybe it will not be as bad as I think? Maybe I'll end up enjoying it? One shall live in hope.
** I'm so sorry, but I'm emotional about him 24/7, I can't be calm when I talk about him, oops.

Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli - April 24th
Genres: young adult, contemporary

A new book by Becky Albertalli is always something to rejoice about. I really enjoyed Simon vs. the Homosapiens Agenda, her debut, but my personal favourite is The Upside of Unrequited. This one follows Leah, Simon's best friend that we met in his novel and as a matter of fact, I don't really know much about it, except that Leah is bisexual. Now that I think about it, if it has Becky's name on the cover, it will most likely be amazing. I know she has sensitivity readers who loved this one, which means the representation must be good.

Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young - April 24th
Genres: young adult, fantasy

Sky in the Deep is Adrienne Young's debut novel and the premise sounds so exciting. It follows Eelyn, who was raised to be a warrior and fights alongside her clansmen in an ancient rivalry against another clan, until they face her brother who was supposed to have died on the battlefield. She is then forced to flee into the mountains, her clan is raided by a ruthless clan supposed to be a legend and to ally herself with someone she doesn't think she can trust. This is a Viking-inspired fantasy novel, I've been looking for Vikings books my entire like.

The Oddling Prince by Nancy Springer - May 15th
Genres: young adult, fantasy

So anyway, this one is set in Scotland. This is the main reason I need it. I always need books set in Scotland. It involves dark secrets, faeries, royalty, brothers and from the summary, it says that it "explores the darkness of the human heart as well as its unceasing capacity for love", honestly it sounds so good? Now that I've read The Cruel Prince by Holly Black, I know that I need more ruthless faeries in my life (hopefully it'll be like that). Nancy Springer also wrote the Enola Holmes series that I adored as a child, it followed Sherlock Holmes' younger sister, she was one of my heroines, so I'm curious to read another of her novels.

On The Come Up by Angie Thomas - June 5th
Genres: young adult, contemporary

This is another case where seeing Angie Thomas' name is more than enough to make me want to read this book. On The Come Up follows Bri, a young woman who wants to be one of the greatest rappers of all time, which comes with a lot of pressure considering her father was an underground rap legend who died before getting his big hit. When her mother unexpectedly loses her job and her family might become homeless, Bri no longer wants to make it, she has to make it. I cannot wait to read another book by Angie Thomas.

A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir - June 12th 2018

The wait is almost over. Finally. The Ember series has been one of my favourite YA fantasy series for such a long time and I can't believe we almost waited two years for the third book. It was for the best, I'm sure of that, but oh, it was excruciating. It's my fault for reading A Torch Against the Night on its release week, because I have no restraint, but oh well. I can't say much considering it's the third book in a series, but I cannot wait to reunite with all the characters and see what will happen next.

A Thousand Beginnings and Endings, anthology edited by Ellen Oh and Elsie Chapman - June 26th 2018

A Thousand Beginnings and Endings is an anthology focusing on reimagining the folklore and mythology of East and South Asia. It has star-crossed lovers, meddling immortals, feigned identities, it involves fairy tales, myths and folklore. I don't know all the authors who are contributing to this anthology, but reading an anthology is also about discovering new authors, right? I'm quite looking forward to reading stories by new-to-me authors, as well as to get some more out of the authors I already know, such as Renee Ahdieh or Julie Kagawa. I've come to really enjoy anthologies, so I hope I'll love this one as well.

Are you excited for any of these books?
What are your most anticipated releases for April, May and June?

November & December 2016 Releases | Grabby Hands #11

I'm back for the last Grabby Hands post of the year! I can't believe I started to write these posts in January, it feels like forever ago, but at the same time, it means that the year is almost over, how is that even possible? This time, I decided to talk about the book I'm excited for the next two months, because I'm only anticipating two books in December, so it would have been ridiculous to have a post just for that. Anyway, let's get into it!

                                                                       November 1st

A Million Worlds With You (Firebird #3) by Claudia Gray - I'm so excited to read this book, because it's the finale in a trilogy that I love so much. The world is so interesting, because it deals with parallel universes, science, but also history. After the ending of Ten Thousand Skies Above You (which was so cruel), I've been counting the days (or so) until I could read this one. Moreover, the covers are so gorgeous!

The Sun is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon - Contemporary isn't a genre I read much of, but Nicola Yoon made a very good impression on me when I read Everything, Everything, last year. It was a cute novel but at the same time dealt with important topics and that's what I want in my contemporary novels. I think I might 100% relate to the characters in this one and I think it's set during a short period of time so it should be interesting.

Blood for Blood (Wolf by Wolf #2) by Ryan Graudin - To be honest, I didn't think I would love Wolf by Wolf, because World War Two terrifies me and I avoid books set during that time period a lot, but also because I have zero interest of motorcycles. And yet, Wolf by Wolf was an amazing and original book, it took me completely by surprise! Ever since then, I've been anticipating the second book, because I need more Yael and Luka in my life (I haven't read the novella, btw).

                                                                       November 8th

Timekeeper (Timekeeper #1) by Tara Sim - I need this book in my life. It's set in an alternate Victorian world with steampunk elements and deals with time. Actually, it makes me think so much of Alice: Through the Looking Glass and I love that movie! By now, you must do I'm obsessed with Victorian era (especially these days) and steampunk is my weakness. I've seen great reviews of this lately, so I'm even more pumped!

Heartless by Marissa Meyer - As a matter of fact, I have already read this one in August because I won an ARC in a giveaway (the only one I ever one but it was the BEST), so I'm not really anticipating it, haha. But I just wanted to mention it because guys, you need to anticipate it. It's a Alice in Wonderland prequel about the Queen of Hearts and it involves so much food. Also, I cried at the end, because as we all know Alice in Wonderland, we know how the queen is! So yes, it's basically a villain origin story and you will need it. It is different from The Lunar Chronicles though, so be warned!

                                                                        December 13th

Crystal Storm (Falling Kingdoms #5) by Morgan Rhodes - I can't hear you over the sound of my OTP calling my name. Frozen Tides was one of my favourite YA books I read this year, it ripped my heart out and made me happy at the same time, you know what I mean. I'm so emotionnally attached to this series, I can't. But, I have to say it's my least favourite cover (sorry, Magnus!). Anyway, I can't wait to have this in my hands but at the same time, it means I'll only have one book left before the series is ending. Nope. I refuse to accept that.

                                                                         December 27th

Ever the Hunted (Clash of Kingdoms #1) by Erin Sumerill - Look, a high fantasy novel! Of course I'm anticipating this. To be honest, I had no idea what it was about, but I thought that if I had it on my TBR, I must have a reason, right? And oh my, it does look amazing. It's about the daughter of a bounty hunter that will need to hunt the boy she once loved to gain her freedom and avenge her father. This cover is also so gorgeous, I can't.

Grabby Hands #10 | October 2016 Releases

I'm excited for a few books this month, but it wasn't as bad as in September where all the books were released. I didn't buy all of those I wanted and won't be able to get some until Christmas *weeps* But anyway, let's talk about the books I'm most excited for that will be published in October!

                                                                          October 4th

Nemesis by Anna Banks - The cover is finally growing on me, but I'm still not a fan of faces on covers... I haven't read this author's mermaid series, but this is high fantasy and I can't resist it. I don't know much about it, except that the main character has great power and falls in love with her worse ennemy (like it's written on the cover...) and hate-to-love relationships are so exciting to read.

The Hammer of Thor (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard #2) by Rick Riordan - I know most people loved The Hidden Oracle but didn't love The Sword of Summer, but for me, it's the contrary. I'm very interested in Norse mythology, because it's something we don't learn enough about. Moreover, this series has a very diverse cast of characters and it's so funny (the humor didn't really work on me in The Hidden Oracle). I'm so excited to read about Magnus again !

Fear the Drowning Deep by Sarah Glenn Marsh - This novel seems perfect for Halloween! It seems so eerie, because it's set in 1913 on an island where the main character is a witch that's scared of the ocean, because his grandfather drowned with a smile on his face and now it's happenning again! It's so exciting and creepy and I need to read it for Halloween.

This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills - I’m not often excited for contemporary novels, but I had heard good things about Emma Mills’ first novel, First and Then, but also about this one. I’m intrigued about this one because it involves a missing painting and a family, and you know how much I love to read about fictional families. Moreover, one of the supporting characters is a social media star, which sounds fun!

When the Moon was Ours by Anna-Marie McLemore - I'm ashamed to say I still haven't read The Weight of Feathers, even though I was so intrigued by it, because it reminded me of The Night Circus. I'm intrigued by When the Moon was Ours, which is a magical realism novel with LGBTQIA+ themes, the main character is transgender! Also, this cover is just gorgeous.

                                                                      October 11th

The Midnight Star (The Young Elites #3) by Marie Lu - The Young Elites is such a great trilogy, with an antihero as a protagonist, which I’m digging. The world is amazing, because it’s inspired by the Renaissance so the aesthetic is gorgeous! Considering where The Rose Society left off, I’m dying to get my hands on this sequel and conclusion.

                                                                      October 18th

Gemina (The Illuminae Files #2) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff - Illuminae was an amazing book, a crazy ride set in space, with a unique format. I think this trilogy functions in the same way than Starbound (the other trilogy Amie Kaufman co-wrote), because it introduces new characters, that will be the main ones, but we’ll still hear about the previous ones, which means it’s kind of a companion series? Because of the way the first book ended, I cannot wait to read this. Marie Lu took care of some of the illustrations and I’m so excited to see her art.

A Study in Scarlet Women (Lady Sherlock #1) by Sherry Thomas - I haven’t read this author’s fantasy series but I’m so excited for this book! It is a gender-swap Sherlock retelling set in Victorian era (meaning the time he actually lived in) and I’m obsessed with this time period. I must have it.

Are you excited for any of these books? What's your most anticipated book that will be released this month (mine are Gemina and The Midnight Star)?

September 2016 Releases | Grabby Hands #9

Now that Summer is coming to a close (well, I'll finally be on holidays during the first two weeks and a half of September, so I'll read all the books), publishers are getting crazy again and releasing all of my most anticipated novels. My wallet and my feels hate me, but well, I need these books in my life, okay?

                                                                      September 1st

The Secret City (The Alchemist Chronicles #2) by C.J. Daugherty and Carina Rozenfeld - I'm sad this cover looks so much like the first one, because I wanted it to be more original... *sigh* But well, that's the way it is... Anyway, I was first drawn to The Secret Fire is co-written by a fellow Frenchie, Carina Rozenfeld and it didn't disappoint. It has this old YA vibe to it that I had missed so much, because it involves alchemists, demons and all of that. Moreover, I thought the chemistry between the main characters was on point and I cannot wait to see where they'll go next. I saw that they were going to Carcassonne and I'm so excited about that!

                                                                      September 6th

Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass #5) by Sarah J. Maas - *whispers* It's still my least favourite cover *go hide in a corner*. Okay, so I was a HUGE Throne of Glass fan last year, but... Queen of Shadows disappointed me. It's not that it's a bad book, per se, but I didn't like the character development, like many readers. Moreover, I'm not a fan of the romance, even though I wasn't in a "team", it's just that I don't like this love interest. However, plot-wise, I'm very excited to get back into this world. I recently pre-ordered this book, so I'm excited again and I hope I will fall in love with the series again.

                                                                     September 13th

The Reader (Sea of Ink and Gold #1) by Traci Chee - I don't know much about this book, but the title was enough to hook me. Indeed, it's about a society were almost no one can read and while it is scary, I want to understand that. I've heard good things about this one, so we'll see.

                                                                     September 20th

Frost Like Night (Snow Like Ashes #3) by Sara Raasch - I love the concept of this world, as half the kingdoms are based off seasons and it's definitely what made me fall in love with this trilogy, considering Snow Like Ashes was one of my favourite books of last year. The second one wasn't as good, I mainly had issues with the romance, but I have high hopes for this conclusion. I'm particularly excited to see Ceridwen in action, a secondary (but now main) character that was introduced in Ice Like Fire

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake (Three Dark Crowns #1) - I've been in love with Kendare's writing since Anna Dressed in Blood, she always writes pretty cool series, but Three Dark Crowns must be the one I've been most excited about, because you know... High fantasy. *winks* The fact that the most talented sister should inherit the throne really interest me, especially when two of them don't control their gifts, I'm eager to see their development. Moreover, y'all must know I love siblings relationships, so I want to see how the girls are with each other, because they're supposed to be in competition and all of that.

A Shadow Bright and Burning (Kingdom on Fire #1) by Jessica Cluess - This is a historical fantasy novel, and you know I'm a sucker for those. The moment I knew it was set in the Victorian era, I needed it in my life, because I have a soft spot for it. Moreover, if I recall correctly, it's about a girl who's supposed to be the Chosen One, but she's actually not??? So give it to me.

Witch's Pyre (The Worldwalker Trilogy #3) by Josephine Angelini - Oops, I think I will need a recap before starting this one, because I don't recall that much. I thought I remembered the ending but it was the ending of the first book, so #fail. Anyway, the magic system is very interesting in this book and I'm looking forward to get back to it. I'm fascinated by the parallel universes in this series, because I thought it was a unique concept and that the author had treated it well. Nevertheless, it's not a perfect series and I feel like there are many tropes. But well, I need to see how it ends and I'm attached to it!

Stealing Snow (Stealing Snow #1) by Danielle Paige - I must confess that I have given up on the Dorothy Must Die series, because while the first book was good, the sequel felt empty and I had no hopes for the finale, as it was even shorter, and now there is a fourth book? WHAT? I think this series isn't worth it, but I'm giving Danielle Paige another chance to surprise me, because she has good ideas. Stealing Snow is a retelling of the Snow Queen and I don't really need another reason to read it.

The Queen of Blood (The Queens of Renthia #1) by Sarah Beth Durst - I know next to nothing about this book, but it's a high fantasy novel, I've heard great things about this author and the title is promising. So yeah, here am I, helping my TBR by adding new books to it.

Stalking Jack the Ripper (Untitled Trilogy #1) by Kerri Maniscalco - This is a Victorian era novel, so of course I need it! *maniachal laughter* So, two years ago, I had a weird fascination about Jack the Ripper with friends, it was all we talked about during a few lunches. Of course, when I knew the book would talk about the subject, I was excited, even if I'll probably be scared while reading it. Moreover, it focuses on forensic science, how cool is that? NEED NEED NEED.

Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter - Russian folklore is so fascinating and I love that this book was inspired by it. I don't know nearly enough about this country but I love its history and I'm craving to learn more about it. Books inspired by Russia are so good (yes, I'm talking about the Grisha trilogy, because I have yet to read The Crown's Game) and that's why I'm excited for this one. It's also a retelling of a Russian tale, so count me in!

                                                                     September 27th

Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows #2) by Leigh Bardugo - Okay, so this is one of my most anticipated books of the year, I need it so much, guys. I have two copies of Six of Crows, gifted my best friend with the French version on her birthday and took it at the library I'm working at for my boyfriend the day I'm writing this post, so yes, I love it and want the world to love it as much as I do. This duology involves a group of criminals in an island inspired by the Netherlands, what else do you need? Oh, the ships to sail and for everyone to stay alive. I'm so scared.

Like A River Glorious (The Gold Seer Trilogy #2) by Rae Carson - This cover is one of my favourite of all times and I cannot wait to have it in my hands, because this blue! And I know it will shine! *incoherent fangirling noises* Anyway, I LOVED Walk On Earth A Stranger, it reminded me why I love historical fiction, because it was so detailed and had a subtle fantasy touch to it. While the first book was about traveling, things will get real in this one, as the characters are finally in California. I'm looking forward to dive more into the Gold Rush era and see more fantasy elements and oh, this one is part of my most anticipated books of the year.

Bright Smoke, Cold Fire (Untitled #1) by Rosamund Hodge - I haven't been a fan of Hodge's previous works, but I'm intrigued by this one, even if I hadn't planned on reading it, at first. This is a Romeo and Juliet fantasy retelling, where the Juliet is a role, for she has to punish her family enemies... which includes Romeo, of course. The synopsis also focuses on unlikely friendships, which totally interest me, because it seems like the romance is a subplot!

Are you excited for any of these books? What's your most anticipated book that will release in September?
