June 2016 | Tea & Screens #4

Tea & Screens is a monthly feature I started a few months back, where I'm talking about all the shows and movies I watched in the previous month.

Because of my internship, I've lacked the motivation to watch anything lately... So most of what I watched, I watched during the first two weeks of June. But I'm quite happy, because I loved everything. At the same time, as I watched Disney movies, it's not really a surprise here! ;)

Outlander (Season 1) - Everyone's been raving about it, but I've been avoided it for so long. One night, I didn't know what to do, and watched the first episode. I got totally addicted to the show and even watched three episodes - which never happens, as I have zero attention when it comes to TV show, I can only watch one. This show is amazing, doesn't sugar-coat anything (I just finished the finale and oh my, I almost puked...) and it feels authentic. I can totally understand why everyone is addicted now. By the way, I think that Sam Heughan is definitely attractive as Jamie Fraser, but not so much in real life, I don't know (it must be the curly hair). Season 2 is ending this week, so I'll be able to binge-watch the entire season this July, and I'll be all caught up (and saaaaad). I'm developping an obsession, as I want the Funko Pops, but I don't want to actually read the book, which is weird? But maybe I'll change my mind! 

Game of Thrones (Season 6) - First off, I want to say that I would have enjoyed this season even more if I hadn't been spoiled for every. single. episode. I'm so mad about it, because spoilers appeared everywhere while the episode was airing, and guess what, I don't live in the US, so I had to wait 24 hours. Ugh, ugh, ugh. The worst part is that it came from people that hate spoiles... Like, nope. To conclude my rant, it's okay to live-tweet, but chill and don't spoil. ANYWAY. This season was my favourite of ever, as I wasn't a huge fan of season 5. It was all about women's power and the storyline made so much progress. I can't wait to see how it'll conclude as there are only thirteen episodes left. Moreover, the music of the last episode was amazing and I advise you to listen to it, even if you don't watch the show!

The 100 (3x01-3x04) - I'm watching this show with my boyfriend, and as I said, I've been lacking the motivation to do anything lately. On weekends, I'd rather read than watch TV shows, so we haven't made a lot of progress... My bad, we'll try to catch up in July? I wasn't sold out by the first episode, I have to admit, I found it quite weird. But it's starting to get better! Not as great as the first two seasons though. I'm waiting to see how it evolves. I've been trying to avoid spoilers like the plague, because people are the worst for this show, just like for GOT... :/

Zootopia (2016) - I had heard nothing but great things about this movie, and everyone was right! It was about prejudice and racism, I loved the message that went through the movie, especially considering what's been happening in the world lately... For example, at the beginning Judy was so scared of foxes, as she's a rabbit, but in the end, one of them was her best friend. I'm applauding Disney-Pixar for this movie -my little brothers also became obsessed- and I'm mad at myself for not watching it sooner.

The Good Dinosaur (2015) - I was also pretty late to this party, and once again, I should have watched it at the same time than everyone else! The Good Dinosaur was a great coming of age story that anyone could relate to, especially when we sometimes feel so worthless about ourselves. At some point, it was also about prejudices, I wasn't expecting it at all. I cried at the end, but I get emotional everytime I'm watching a Disney movie, don't mind me...

Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016) - I have to admit that Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton is one of my favourite movies, because I love him as a director, and it was starring Johnny Depp. So many people don't like the movies because it's quite different from the books, but I love them anyway. In this one, we saw a lot more of the 19th century, because the location was switching, which was quite interesting, as we were seeing the consequences for Alice. This movie involved ships, time traveling and steampunk elements, you bet I loved it. Moreover, I was pleasantely surprised when I realised that Edward Speleers (Jimmy from Downton Abbey) was acting in the movie and he could be something more for Alice (I SHIP IT!!!). I just loved the movie so much, Alice kicked everyone's ass and showed that Victorian ladies could be the strongest. Also, at the end, the credits were saying the movie was dedicated to Alan Rickman, which put me on the verge of tears, but at the same time, I found it so beautiful that they were doing this. <3

It appears that I talked a lot, because I loved everything so much, this month. I hope it'll be just the same in July. I shouldn't wait too long before watching Finding Dory, or I'll be late to the Disney party again. But at the same time, Finding Nemo isn't my favourite... Decisions, decisions.

May 2016 | Tea & Screens #3

I watched so many TV shows and movies this month, because after finals I was pretty much free and I loved that. Many seasons of shows were ending so I was busy catching up on everything, and now I'm up to date! Of course, there are shows I haven't started the new seasons yet, so it's my plan for the summer. I'm currently catching up on Game of Thrones as we speak. 

Once Upon A Time (520-523) - Aaah, I'm happy that the villain wasn't redeemable after all! At first, it felt a little weird they had defeated it before the last two episodes of the season, but I'm so pumped about the new villain they introduced. I wasn't keeping up with the news abut the show, so I had no idea, but it's pretty interesting in my opinion (I don't want to spoil people who haven't finished!). I also want to know more of the new land we saw. There was an important death and it was a bit sad, but I can't tell I was surprised. Moreover, I liked how two characters are becoming close, but well, it's a family show so we could expect it.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (319-322) - The way they defeated the villain was pretty interesting and sad, it also means we finally got rid of a certain character (hahaha). But, what was that ending, creators? It was pretty weird but I'm definitely curious about what will happen next.

New Girl (510-522) - I literally marathoned all of these episodes during finals (I know, it's bad), because I grew so addicted to this show. I wasn't a huge fan of Megan Fox's character though, because she was pretty much a filler while Jess wasn't there, you know? I liked that some old characters came back this season, it was so much fun to have them again. And oh, in the end the wedding was hilarious. Nothing went as planned, but who expected it to be perfect? The ending made me a little sad for Jess, but well, I'm sure it will be better for her next season.

The Big Bang Theory (921-924) - As always, I'm having so much fun watching this show, it has such a perfect format. However, I feel like this season's finale wasn't really a finale. I mean, it could have been any episode of the season, so I was a little disappointed about that... I needed more tension and more closure, but well, I'll have season next season I guess, as it's the last!

The Flash (220-223) - Okay, I can't stand Iris anymore. A villain should come and kill her instead of good characters, duh. But well, she's endgame and they have to keep her while she says cheesy stuffs to Barry. Nope, nope, nope. The only reason her character is here is to be Barry's love interest, I definitely don't like that. Nevertheless, I liked the resolution of the season. I'm scared for the new season, though, because Barry, you shouldn't have chosen to do that! It will mess everything up for sure! And ah, it was pretty funny to see who was behind the mask in Zoom's lair.

Arrow (420-423) - While I loved the whole season (because magic :D), I was disappointed on how this season ended. It's exactly the same that last season, except the characters are reversed. Seriously, some originality, please? However, I like that Arrow is one of those shows that doesn't end on a cliffhanger, it changes a little. Curtis was definitely the best, he helped the team a lot, I hope we'll see more of him.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow (108-116) - This show is amazing, I marathoned most of it with my boyfriend in a day, that's how obsessed we were. However, I'm mad at this soul mate thing, okay? We choose who we love, period. Except for that complain, it was so kickass, the characters are amazing and I can't wait to see what happens next! And well, they were aboard a time travel ship, which means I was bound to like it! ;)

Tinkerbell and the Legend of the NeverBeast (2014) - It was on demand and I hadn't seen this Tinkerbell movie, so I had to (there is still one I haven't seen I think). I loved the plot, it was pretty original and introduced so much world-building. It also focused a lot more on Noa than Tinkerbell, but I didn't mind that, it was interesting to switch focus a little. Moreover, I cried at the end because it was saaaaad. Yes, I know it's ridiculous that I cry during Disney movies when I'm twenty, but I don't care.

Atlantis: the Lost Empire (2001) (rewatch) - The first time I watched this movie I was five apparently (I went with my school), I didn't remember a lot. I loved it because Atlantis' myth is so interesting and the movie was steampunk, which I love. I'm happy I got to watch it again, especially when my little brothers had never seen it.

Becoming Jane (2007) - I'm obsessed with this movie. I saw it on demand and was like 'oh it sounds interesting' but then I was completely hooked. I know it was romanticized but the chemistry was on point. The best scene was when Jane was dancing with Wisley and then she had to switch partners and then it was Lefroy and he had such a smile... My heart completely melted... The last scene was also pretty cute, even though it probably never happened. But it was hope and respect and I'm dying here, guys. I want more and Jane Austen to be happy forever and ever with Lefroy, even though it didn't happen and helped her become such a great writer. *sobs*

Bridget Jones's Diary (2001) - Funny that this book was inspired by Pride and Prejudice as I watched Becoming Jane during the same month. I never read the book but I found the movie to be really funny and ridiculous. I still loved it even though everything was WTF. Also, Colin Firth is so attractive it hurts. Apparently he played Darcy in one of Pride and Prejudice's adaptations??? I need to watch that.

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) - When I started watching it, I was a little 'meh' because I knew it would be drama, over drama. But it was still funny and the situations 100% ridiculous. This movie was definitely not mind blowing but I had such a good time watching it! Moreover, I learnt that a new Bridget Jones movie is coming out this year? I totally want to watch that.

April 2016 | Tea & Screens #2

Tea & Screens is a monthly feature where I talk about all the movies and TV shows I watched in the previous month. I totally cheated for Captain America though, since I saw it on May 1st, but who wouldn't? It was just Marvel at its finest. And yes, you can notice once more how obsessed I am with movies/TV shows based upon comics' characters. I'm a bit sad because a lot of TV shows' seasons will be ending in May, which means I'll need to find other shows to watch over the summer.

Supergirl (1x15-1x20) - I still think this show is cheesy, but I really like it overall. My least favourite episode was probably the one with the Red Kryptonite, because I hate when they choose to make the character bad but it's not his faaaauuult. But well, that's my taste. My favourite episode was probably the crossover with the Flash, because Barry (<3). Also, it was hilarious when Cat said he was meant to be on a show from CW. I'm excited to see the direction in which the show is going next season.

Once Upon A Time (5x12-5x19) - I really like this arc in the Underworld, particularly meeting Hades (when his hair becomes blue fire, I find it hilarious), I was totally rooting for him as a villain, but sadly he's going soft in the last few episodes... I know that it's a family show and all, but I want a true villain. I liked seeing characters from previous seasons, I had missed them. The creators are also a lot about instalove lately in my opinion. Okay, there is the idea of true love, but it's better with build up like Snow/Charming and Belle/Rumple.

The Flash (217-219) - OMG Wells, what is this horrible 'brilliant' idea you got at the end of the last episode? I didn't watch a lot of episodes for this show, because there weren't that many this month. It took some cool and scary twists during those episodes though, I could totally feel the tension. Now Barry, just find a way to take down Zoom. And then we'll know who is the man in the mask!

Arrow (417-419) - Like I said last month, this season really got more intense than the previous ones and I love it. I still don't really care about the flashbacks though, but it's almost always been the case. Finally, we got to know who was in the grave! I wasn't completely shocked by the revelation, because it was obvious it wouldn't be certain characters. I think that with this revelation, we reached a climax and that now it will only be about facing the antagonist - after all, there aren't many episodes left!

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (315-318) - This month, there were some good plot twists and it makes me all the more eager to see what will happen next. We finally know what Hive (it's his name now, right?) is been up to and he doesn't really care about SHIELD, haha. There were betrayals, relationships forming and that's all that I need. The ending of episode eighteen made me so happy (because finallyyyyy) but also scared for what will happen next. 

Captain America: Civil War (2016) - Technically, I saw this one on May 1st, but I don't want to wait another month before talking about it. Beforehand, I would like to say that I saw it early because it's been out since April 27 in France. Obviously, I was team Cap because "that's all there is" (cookies for who gets the reference!) and I think I was already on his side when I read the first bind-up of Civil War (it's the only one I have) years ago. To make it brief, I found that the cast was spectacular, the movie was the funniest and it had some great action. Moreover, I can totally understand why some people are all about Steve/Bucky, because one can wonder why he would do all of that for him, you know? If you think about it, superheroes are doing everything to save their girlfriend, not the best-friend-turned-psycho-that-tried-to-kill-them. I kept this short, but I'm so obsessed. Also, I'm so excited for more Black Panther, I found him so interesting and there were so much backstory about him.

A Midsummer Night's Dream (1999) - I read Shakespeare's play three years ago but I never saw it acted out. It's a movie, so it's not the same as seeing it in a theatre, but it made me laugh. I definitely don't think it was the best, but I haven't seen another adaptation yet. It had quite a famous cast, so it was interesting seeing all these actors in a different genre. I was quite surprised when I saw the actress playing Cat in Supergirl (she played Helena here), I'm used to her as a powerful and cynical woman. However, I found it to be quite graphic: I watched with my little brother, who is ten years old, and it wasn't adapted. I'm not sure it's that obvious when you see it in a theatre. Overall, I enjoyed it and I liked finally seeing an adaptation of it.

Hercules (1997) - It was only my second or third time seeing it, actually. Obviously, all the inaccuracies about Greek mythology made me cringe, especially after studying Greek religion for a year at university. But, it's a Disney animated movie and I love those overall. I was pleased to see it had a little diversity, for a Disney movie and I liked that, because we were in Greece, so of course people have a darker skin than in Norway for example. Also, everyone wasn't the skinniest of them all, that's a start. But, if you look at the poster, the characters are white... Ugh. Moreover, the strength of the movie was definitely Hades, the villain. I can totally buy him as a villain, he was so awful and the fire hair is my favourite.

March 2016 | Tea & Screens #1

As I mentioned in my wrap-up, I want to talk about all the shows and movies I'm watching each month. Yes, I love books, just like you do, but I'd like to talk about a larger range of topics. TV shows and movies are something I would like to start up with. Each month, I'll do mini wrap-ups focusing on that subject. I'm calling this new type of post "Tea & Screens", because I love watching shows, movies or even YouTube videos while I'm drinking tea. And well, tea is the first word of my blog's name. ;) This month was totally a comics adaptation month for me, I can't get enough of it! I only watched one movie but well, it was a good one.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (3x11-3x14) - After a three months long break (ugh ABC, I really don't like when you do this), Agents of SHIELD got back on TV! I was really excited to watch it again, because it ended on a big cliff-hanger, as always. However, I found it to be slow to start and we didn't see that much of the antagonist of the season since the show came back. I'm still really invested, and I even cried at the end of an episode because of the team dynamics and some characters left which made me so, so sad. They weren't my favourites, but it's weird thinking we won't see them again (or in a long time). Still, the show featured some good character development, with a backstory for Mack, another character really joining the team...

 

Agent Carter (S2) - I don't know if Agent Carter has been renewed for a third season, but I sure hope so (because that ending!). I thinkthat some people don't really like it because it's pretty different from what Marvel usually do, but I was so addicted, I watched the entire season (ten episodes) this month. I liked that it linked to what was happening in Agents of SHIELD. It was also a little frustrating, because I knew but the characters didn't since it happened fifty years after. Anyway, this show made me laugh so much and it's a little ridiculous at times (in a good way) because it's a different spirit from our time. I love that it is set in a different era and that it's basically a prequel for the SHIELD, but maybe it's just the history nerd in me. Moreover, the characters were in a new setting, since the first season was set in New York and this one in Los Angeles. Peggy rocked it all, as always, and we got her backstory, how she entered the SSR and everything! I loved when she said she hadn't taken a day off since Pearl Harbor, that's totally her! :D Also, Jarvis is my fave!

Shadowhunters (1x08-1x12) - The show started to be quite different from the books, but I don't think it's a bad thing! I wasn't a fan of the first episodes of the season, but I found that it really improved since the beginning. Moreover, as a fan of the book, I like not knowing everything that's going to happen. The show made some plot elements come sooner and it was a good idea, because a book and a show are definitely not the same format. For me, books and TV show are different things and I'm pretty sure that's why I'm able to enjoy it when others really don't. I still have a hard time with Jace and Clary, I find them ridiculous, especially when they have dialogs like "It's you and me. Here and now." How can this be more cringe-worthy??? UGH. But I really enjoy the other main characters, when I wasn't Simon and Alec's biggest fan in the books! Also, can we talk about Malec? Because every time I livetweeted an episode, that's what I was talking about. I loved that they mentioned Church and Chairman Meow at some point, I was the heart eyes emoji. Literally. I'm cheating because I'm including the finale -which aired April 5th- and I wasn't overly impressed by uit. Nothing actually shocking happened in my opinion. Or did I just miss it?

The Flash (2x14-2x16) - I'm so obsessed with this show. I'm also a little late, for I watch it with my boyfriend and I haven't seen him since the last episode was released. Since Zoom's "maybe identity" came up, I've been looking up every theory I could find, I need to figure it out. Seeing Earth-2 was so cool, but I really thought they would stay longer... I hope they'll go back soon! In the episodes I watched, Diggle and Lyla made a cameo and it always makes me so excited when that happens, because well, I'm watching all DC's shows from CW. By the way, I really need to catch up on Supergirl, for the crossover episode with Flash!

Arrow (4x16-4x17) - Honestly, I think this show is getting better every year. I started watching it because it was the first comic show of the 2010s, but I found it to be all action and repetitive and I wanted more depth. Now that magic was introduced, I'm in awe. As always, the flashbacks aren't my favourite -it makes me laugh so much thinking he said he spent 'five years on an island with only one goal: to survive' in season one- but present day scenes are so good. Darhk is such an interesting and hard to beat villain, he is questioning everyone's beliefs and I love that. Lately, the show has been so gripping, I can't wait to see how it will end this year and damn... Who will be in the grave we saw all those episodes ago? I really need to know! Also, I'm wondering why so much breaks between the episodes, CW? There was a three weeks long one and another this week? Like no. 

DC's Legends of Tomorrow (1x03-1x06) - I like it but I find it's complicated to have character development with six main characters... This world is different from what I'm used to in superheroes shows, because it involves historical (but can we get in a more ancient time period, please?) and futuristic worlds. What I have a hard time believing is the whole team being able to work together like that, like when Snart said he did want to stay in the beginning, when it was all about the team? It felt a little out of character but oh well. I'm eager to know more about the time lords because that's a concept I love. Also, Oliver made an appearance, it was quite fun (or not?)! So far I really like the show, but I hope the concept of each time travel won't get too repetitive.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (in theaters) - It was so dark, both visually and morally, which pleased me to no end (those settings, wow). With so many mixed reviews, I was scared to see it, but I really liked it! I think Ben Affleck was a really good Batman, but I wanted Alfred to be more like the usual Alfred. Also, I felt like something was missing in Batman's crusade against Superman. It didn't seem "enough". Jesse Eisenberg was acting so well as an insane Lex Luthor. I liked that he wasn't really good at making speeches, it helped for more diversity - which doesn't happen a lot in superheroes movies - he was this crazy genius. The highlight of the movie was of course Wonder Woman (except the ridiculous music when she fought) especially when Batman and Superman were wondering who she was with. She's with herself, you idiots. The movie was a great introduction to Justice League movies, because we saw glimpses of Aquaman, Cyborg and Flash. I have to admit I'm still a little bittersweet that they had to cast another actor for Flash, because I really like Grant Gustin... But he can't do the show and the movie, sadly. It contained some great action scenes, but it focused more on the characters, which made it long to start, but I didn't mind, because I liked all the built-up. I'm really excited for more DC movies now.
