And school is here again... | September 2015 Wrap-Up

Hi guys! My month was so crazy, I was still on holidays the first two weeks of September but uni started on the 14th and since then, I have a hard studying *sighs*. The worst part is that I can't blog much, all the posts you saw were scheduled but I'll have a hard time in October and I barely have time to read.

I now have homework, which I didn't have my first two years of graduation... because personal studying was everything and so took all my time. Still, I'm not really motivated to do homework these days. My boyfriend left for a semester in Germany, which doesn't help because I'm sad... But I'll have better days soon!

WHAT I READ

I managed to read thirteen novels, three graphic novels and two e-novellas, which isn't bad really, but not as much as I used to read during the summer. I'm not including books I read for history class or the ones I read with my little brothers in French (even if it was so much fun!)

Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass #4) by Sarah J. Maas 4 stars
Stolen Songbird (The Malediction Trilogy #1) by Danielle L. Jensen 4.5 stars
The Copper Gauntlet (Magisterium #2) by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare 3.5 stars
Saga #2 by Brian K. Vaughan graphic novel 4 stars
Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli 4 stars
The Book of Ivy (The Book of Ivy #1) 4 stars
Saga #3 by Brian K. Vaughan graphic novel 4 stars
Saga #4 by Brian K. Vaughan graphic novel 4 stars
The Girl at Midnight (the Girl at Midnight #1) by Melissa Grey 4 stars
The Iron King (The Iron Fey #1) by Julie Kagawa 3.5 stars
The Iron Daughter (The Iron Fey #2) by Julie Kagawa 2.5 stars
Jackaby (Jackaby #1) by William Ritter 4 stars
Queen Song (Red Queen #0.1) by Victoria Aveyard e-novella 4 stars
The Enchantress Returns (The Land of Stories #2) by Chris Colfer 3 stars
Antigoddess (Goddess War #1) by Kendare Blake 4 stars
The Rose Society (The Young Elites #2) 5 stars
The Fiery Trial (Tales of Shadowhunter Academy #8) 4 stars
Six of Crows (The Dregs #1) all the 5 stars

Currently reading: Never, Never by Brianna Shrum, about Captain Hook! We'll see but yay! BTW Regina called Hook 'Guyliner' in OUAT premiere, it made me laugh so much!

I was disappointed in Queen of Shadows to be honest, it was one of my most anticipated releases of this year but SO MUCH HYPE guys. I felt like some characters didn't act the way they usually do and I don't like Rowan so... I think it will be painful to read the rest of the books, unfortunately for me. Stolen Songbird came as a huge surprise, I can't wait to continue on Hidden Huntress when I have time. The Rose Society and Six of Crows were my favourite books of the month, I got copies early and I'm so happy I did! :D

WHAT I WATCHED

Teen Wolf (season 4): I really enjoyed this, but sometimes... I wonder where the series is going... 3.5 stars

Poldark (season 1): I had heard that show was good, but honestly, it was everything. Aidan Turner is bae (awww remember when he was Luke Garroway? and played in the Hobbit?). Plus, a girl with unruly curly hair who is not me ? Yessss. 5 stars and more.

How was your month?

Six of Crows | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

Title: Six of Crows (The Dregs #1)
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Published: September 29th 2015 by Henry Holt and Company

Goodreads summary: Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can't pull it off alone...

A convict with a thirst for revenge. A sharpshooter who can't walk away from a wager. A runaway with a privileged past. A spy known as the Wraith. A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums. A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz's crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don't kill each other first.

MY THOUGHTS

The Grisha trilogy is one of my favourite fantasy series out there. I love how it is inspired from Russian culture, the magic system, the plot and everything. I was so excited when I heard Leigh Bardugo was planning to write other books set in this world. I might reread the entire Grisha trilogy before I dive into this book, because there will never be enough of the Darkling! Moreover, this book sounds epic.

A New Hope | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

Title: A New Hope: The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy (Star Wars Illustrated Novels #1)

Author: Alexandra Bracken

Published: September 22nd 2015 by Disney LucasFilm Press

Goodreads summary: Acclaimed, New York Times best-selling author Alexandra Bracken delivers a captivating retelling of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope like you've never experienced before, infusing the iconic, classic tale of good versus evil with a unique perspective and narrative style that will speak directly to today's young readers while enhancing the Star Wars experience for core fans of the saga.

This illustrated novel is the first in the highly-anticipated series and features richly detailed art by celebrated Star Wars concept artist Iain McCaig. Fans old and new will be delighted by this beautifully crafted book and the unexpected twists in this retelling of a beloved story.

MY THOUGHTS

When I saw Alexandra Bracken was writing a book based on Star Wars, I got so excited. I loved her work in the Darkest Minds and I can't wait to discover Passenger. I don't remember much about the Star Wars movies, to be honest, so I think it will almost be a new story to me. I read the first three chapters online and I'm pretty confident it will be epic, the introduction put me in the mood right away. I probably won't read the other books in this series, it's just that I think the equation Alexandra Bracken + Star Wars will be a success.

Walk on Earth a Stranger | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine where I discuss the upcoming releases that I'm most excited for.

Title: Walk on Earth a Stranger (The Gold Seer Trilogy #1)

Author: Rae Carson

Published: September 22th 2015 by Greenwillow Books

Goodreads summary: Lee Westfall has a secret. She can sense the presence of gold in the world around her. Veins deep beneath the earth, pebbles in the river, nuggets dug up from the forest floor. The buzz of gold means warmth and life and home—until everything is ripped away by a man who wants to control her. Left with nothing, Lee disguises herself as a boy and takes to the trail across the country. Gold was discovered in California, and where else could such a magical girl find herself, find safety? Walk on Earth a Stranger, the first book in this new trilogy, introduces—as only Rae Carson can—a strong heroine, a perilous road, a fantastical twist, and a slow-burning romance. Includes a map and author’s note on historical research.

MY THOUGHTS

I didn't finish The Girl of Fire and Thorns to be honest, the main character annoyed me and the plot was really slow (um unpopular opinion here!). However, I wanted to give this author another chance, because the premise of this book intrigues me. Also, I watched a western movie a few weeks ago, now I really want to know more about America at this time period. I think historical fiction and fantasy could be a great mix here. Lee's power makes me think a little of Hazel's in The Heroes of Olympus, by the way!

Library of Souls | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine where I discuss the upcoming releases that I'm most excited for.

Title: Library of Souls (Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children #3)

Author: Ranson Riggs

Published: September 22th 2015 by Quirk Books

Goodreads summary: The epic conclusion to the best-selling series! Time is running out for the Peculiar Children. With a dangerous madman on the loose and their beloved Miss Peregrine still in danger, Jacob Portman and Emma Bloom are forced to stage the most daring of rescue missions. They’ll travel through a war-torn landscape, meet new allies, and face greater dangers than ever. . . . Will Jacob come into his own as the hero his fellow Peculiars know him to be? This action-packed adventure features more than 50 all-new Peculiar photographs. Read an excerpt here.

MY THOUGHTS

I really like this series, especially the photographs that really add to the story. I'm wondering how it will wrap up. However, I will need a recap of Hollow City because I don't really remember what happened. Moreover, I can't wait to see what Jacob will choose: stay with the Peculiars or with his family?

Queen of Shadows & Vengeance Road | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases. Personally, I always speak of books released on the next Tuesday, but that's not everyone's case.

Title: Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass #4)

Author: Sarah J. Maas

Publisher: Bloomsbury USA Children

Release date: September 1st 2015

Goodreads summary: Sarah J. Maas's New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series reaches new heights in this sweeping fourth volume.

Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she's at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past...

She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die just to see her again. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen's triumphant return.

Celaena’s epic journey has captured the hearts and imaginations of millions across the globe. This fourth volume will hold readers rapt as Celaena’s story builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.

MY THOUGHTS

The answer is really obvious. I've read the three first books in this series, and it kept getting better and better. I've been anticipating this book since I finished Heir of Fire, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I've never been disappointed by Sarah J. Maas, I know I'll love it!

Title: Vengeance Road

Author: Erin Bowman

Publisher: HMH Books for Young Readers

Release date: September 1st 2015

Goodreads summary: When Kate Thompson’s father is killed by the notorious Rose Riders for a mysterious journal that reveals the secret location of a gold mine, the eighteen-year-old disguises herself as a boy and takes to the gritty plains looking for answers and justice. What she finds are devious strangers, dust storms, and a pair of brothers who refuse to quit riding in her shadow. But as Kate gets closer to the secrets about her family, she gets closer to the truth about herself and must decide if there's room for love in a heart so full of hate.

In the spirit of True Grit, the cutthroat days of the Wild West come to life for a new generation.

MY THOUGHTS

I've never read a novel set in the Wild West before, I'll confess that I'm really curious about that. I've read a lot of early reviews of this book, and so many people seemed to have loved it. I just want to jump on that train and see what it's all about.

Are you excited for these books (especially QoS)? What books are you most excited about this wednesday? Let me know!
