The Impostor Queen | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine where we discuss the upcoming releases that we are most excited for.

Title: The Impostor Queen (Untitled #1)
Autor: Sarah Fine
Published: January 5th 2016 by Margaret K. McElderry Books

Goodreads summary: Sixteen-year-old Elli was a small child when the Elders of Kupari chose her to succeed the Valtia, the queen who wields infinitely powerful ice and fire magic. Since then, Elli has lived in the temple, surrounded by luxury and tutored by magical priests, as she prepares for the day when the Valtia perishes and the magic finds a new home in her. Elli is destined to be the most powerful Valtia to ever rule.

But when the queen dies defending the kingdom from invading warriors, the magic doesn’t enter Elli. It’s nowhere to be found.

Disgraced, Elli flees to the outlands, the home of banished criminals—some who would love to see the temple burn with all its priests inside. As she finds her footing in this new world, Elli uncovers devastating new information about the Kupari magic, those who wield it, and the prophecy that foretold her destiny. Torn between the love she has for her people and her growing loyalty to the banished, Elli struggles to understand the true role she was meant to play. But as war looms, she must align with the right side—before the kingdom and its magic are completely destroyed.

MY THOUGHTS

I haven't read Sarah's other books yet but this one seems like a great place to start. It's a high fantasy so basically I have to read it. It sounds really interesting, because it deals with a temple and prophecy and magic. And the main character was supposed to be queen but won't be. I read some great reviews on this one (but not enough, sadly), and I think there one character is homosexual or bisexual (I'm sorry I can't remember), it's great we're getting more diversity in that genre!

Sword and Verse | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine where we discuss the upcoming releases that we are most excited for.

Title: Sword and Verse
Author: Kathy MacMillan
Published: January 19th 2016

Goodreads summary: Raisa was just a child when she was sold to work as a slave in the kingdom of Qilara. Despite her young age, her father was teaching her to read and write, grooming her to take his place as a Learned One. In Qilara, the Arnathim, like Raisa, are the lowest class, and literacy is a capital offense. What’s more, only the king, prince, tutor, and tutor-in-training are allowed to learn the very highest order language, the language of the gods. So when the tutor-in-training is executed for teaching slaves this sacred language, and Raisa is selected to replace her, Raisa knows any slipup on her part could mean death.

Keeping her secret is hard enough, but the romance that’s been growing between her and Prince Mati isn’t helping matters. Then Raisa is approached by the Resistance—an underground army of slave rebels—to help liberate Arnath slaves. She wants to free her people, but that would mean aiding a war against Mati. As Raisa struggles with what to do, she discovers a secret that the Qilarites have been hiding for centuries—one that, if uncovered, could bring the kingdom to its knees.

MY THOUGHTS

Okay, this totally reminds me of An Ember in the Ashes!!!! I'm pretty sure it's just the synopsis and it will be totally different, but seriously! Slave... Language of the gods... Forbidden romance with a prince... Approached by the Resistance... A secret hiding for centuries... The summary sold the book to me, basically! The main character has the same name than Raisa from Seven Kingdoms, so it means it will be a great book, right? I'm totally incoherent right now, but I'm so excited because it sounds like an amazing YA high fantasy, and it's a debut author!

Have you heard about this book? What do you think about it?

Reign of Shadows | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine where we discuss the upcoming releases that we are most excited for.

Title: Reign of Shadows
Author: Sophie Jordan
Published: February 9th 2016 by Harper Teen

Goodreads summary: Seventeen years ago, an eclipse cloaked the kingdom of Relhok in perpetual darkness. In the chaos, an evil chancellor murdered the king and queen and seized their throne. Luna, Relhok's lost princess, has been hiding in a tower ever since. Luna's survival depends on the world believing she is dead.

But that doesn't stop Luna from wanting more. When she meets Fowler, a mysterious archer braving the woods outside her tower, Luna is drawn to him despite the risk. When the tower is attacked, Luna and Fowler escape together. But this world of darkness is more treacherous than Luna ever realized.

With every threat stacked against them, Luna and Fowler find solace in each other. But with secrets still unspoken between them, falling in love might be their most dangerous journey yet.

With lush writing and a star-crossed romance, Reign of Shadows is Sophie Jordan at her best.

MY THOUGHTS

I've read an other book by this author, but I was disappointed. However, this one totally appealed to me. First of, the cover is GORGEOUS, I can't help but dream about having it on my bookshelves. Second, this is an high fantasy... And that's my favourite genre. Third, it feels like a Rapunzel retelling. I love Rapunzel. I just want this. I'm confident that Sophie Jordan won't let me down with this book, even though I didn't like Uninvited (I think it was the name? Not sure).

What do you think about this book? I feel like we have a lot of fairy tales type of books coming next year and I'm so happy about it. Do you like this genre? Which book did you choose for you WOW?

The Dark Days Club | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine where we discuss the upcoming releases that we are most excited for.

Title: The Dark Days Club (Lady Helen #1)
Author: Alison Goodman
Published: January 26th 2016 by Viking Books for Young Readers

Goodreads summary: New York Times bestseller Alison Goodman's eagerly awaited new project: a Regency adventure starring a stylish and intrepid demon-hunter!

London, April 1812. On the eve of eighteen-year-old Lady Helen Wrexhall's presentation to the queen, one of her family's housemaids disappears - and Helen is drawn into the shadows of Regency London. There, she meets Lord Carlston, one of the few who can stop the perpetrators: a cabal of demons infiltrating every level of society. Dare she ask for his help, when his reputation is almost as black as his lingering eyes? And will her intelligence and headstrong curiosity wind up leading them into a death trap?

MY THOUGHTS

I heard about this book at the beginning of this year and I got excited right away. I'm so eager to know more about the Regency - because I'm French, so I only know our side of history. 19th century is a time period I love, so I'm really excited. Moreover, it is about hunting demons, which I also love. I know it won't be the same (and I don't want that) but I totally have an Infernal Devices vibe from this book, even if it's not the same period exactly. Because of that, I sure want to read this book!

What do you think of this book? Which book are you excited for this Wednesday?

Truthwitch | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine where I discuss the upcoming releases that I'm most excited for.

Title: Trutwitch (The Witchlanders #1)
Author: Susan Dennard
Published: January 5th 2016 by Tor Teen

Goodreads summary: On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery”, a magical skill that sets them apart from others.

In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well.

Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It’s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires.

Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her—but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safi’s hotheaded impulsiveness.

Safi and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and ship’s captain) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

MY THOUGHTS

I read Dennard's Something Strange and Deadly trilogy last month and I loved every single part of it. I laughed. I cried. I was scared. This trilogy made me feel everything and I was so sad it was over (I read the three books in five days during school time). But, well, there is Truthwitch. I have high hopes, because Susan Dennard is an amazing writer. From the #ClanChat, we saw that her world was really complex and seemed amazing. I read the first chapter online and it will be quite a ride! It seemed full of adventures, friendships, and kick-ass female characters! Also, the Bloodwitch was quite scary...

Are you excited about this book? Don't lie because who wouldn't?

Passenger | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine where I discuss the upcoming releases that I'm most excited for.

Title: Passenger (Passenger #1)
Author: Alexandra Bracken
Published: January 5th 2016 by Disney-Hyperion

Goodreads summary: passage, n.
i. A brief section of music composed of a series of notes and flourishes.
ii. A journey by water; a voyage.
iii. The transition from one place to another, across space and time.

In one devastating night, violin prodigy Etta Spencer loses everything she knows and loves. Thrust into an unfamiliar world by a stranger with a dangerous agenda, Etta is certain of only one thing: she has traveled not just miles but years from home. And she’s inherited a legacy she knows nothing about from a family whose existence she’s never heard of. Until now.

Nicholas Carter is content with his life at sea, free from the Ironwoods—a powerful family in the colonies—and the servitude he’s known at their hands. But with the arrival of an unusual passenger on his ship comes the insistent pull of the past that he can’t escape and the family that won’t let him go so easily. Now the Ironwoods are searching for a stolen object of untold value, one they believe only Etta, Nicholas’ passenger, can find. In order to protect her, he must ensure she brings it back to them— whether she wants to or not.

Together, Etta and Nicholas embark on a perilous journey across centuries and continents, piecing together clues left behind by the traveler who will do anything to keep the object out of the Ironwoods’ grasp. But as they get closer to the truth of their search, and the deadly game the Ironwoods are playing, treacherous forces threaten to separate Etta not only from Nicholas but from her path home . . . forever

MY THOUGHTS

This book involves ships, that's the only thing I needed to be sold, tbh. I loved Bracken's The Darkest Minds, so of course I'm jumping on this ship I'm so funny. This book involved a violonist, that's so cool, and it has to deal with time travel? What else do you need? I just want to be in January already...

Are you excited about this book?

Frozen Tides | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

Title: Frozen Tides (Falling Kingdoms #4)
Author: Morgan Rhodes
Published: December 15th 2015 by RazorBill

Goodreads summary: Rebels, royals, and monsters wage war over the Mytican throne in the shocking fourth book of the Falling Kingdoms series, from New York Times bestselling author Morgan Rhodes.

CLEO: Reeling after a bloody showdown in Limeros ending with Amara’s abduction of the water crystal, and a vacancy in the Mytican throne, Princess Cleo must cast aside her feelings and look toward her kingdom with the eyes of a Queen.

MAGNUS: With the kingdom in chaos, Princess Lucia still missing and quite possibly in danger, and a shocking realization about Cleo, the steely prince is once again torn between love and duty, leaving him wondering whether he’s strong enough to rule his people.

LUCIA: The young sorcercess has had her vengeance after the cruel death of her first and only love. Heartbroken and unable to trust anyone, she allies with the awoken Fire god, who also seeks revenge.

JONAS: After escaping death by the skin of his teeth, the defeated rebel—along with a mysterious stranger–leader reunites with Princess Cleo, only to find himself a mere pawn in a dangerous hunt for the elusive Kindred.

KING GAIUS: Abandoned by Melenia and betrayed by his own children, Gaius flees Mytica and sails to Kraeshia, where he attempts to ally with the famously brutal emperor across the Silver Sea.

MY THOUGHTS

Have you seen how gorgeous the cover is? *grabby hands*

This series is one of my favourite among YA high fantasy books. It's basically Game of Thrones... But for teens. The world is rich and complex, I love that you get to read the point of view of the "guardians" of Mytica, it's unique, it's like reading from the Fates if we were in a Greek perspective. Of course, I have my favourite characters, but every point of view adds something to the story, because everyone is seeking the Kindred and has a different perspective. Also, I'm a Cleo/Magnus shipper, so I can't wait to see what will happen to them in this book. This is the fourth book so A LOT will happen. I have high hopes for this one, I pray that it won't be a little disappointment like Queen of Shadows, who also was a fourth book.

November 9 & Soundless | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

Title: November 9
Author: Colleen Hoover
Published: November 10th 2015

Goodreads summary: Beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover returns with an unforgettable love story between a writer and his unexpected muse.

Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day of her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.

MY THOUGHTS

I don't read a lot of new adult to be honest, but I love CoHo's novels. Whenever you're sad, or when you're in a reading slump, you can just pick one of them, eat it, and then you'll feel better. I loved every romance she wrote, I got all the feels, so I trust her. I probably won't pick up this novel when it's out, I'll keep it for sad days. ;)

Title: Soundless
Author: Richelle Mead
Published: November 10th 2015 by Razorbill

Goodreads summary: From Richelle Mead, the #1 internationally bestselling author of Vampire Academy and Bloodlines, comes a breathtaking new fantasy steeped in Chinese folklore.

For as long as Fei can remember, there has been no sound in her village, where rocky terrain and frequent avalanches prevent residents from self-sustaining. Fei and her people are at the mercy of a zipline that carries food up the treacherous cliffs from Beiguo, a mysterious faraway kingdom.

When villagers begin to lose their sight, deliveries from the zipline shrink and many go hungry. Fei’s home, the people she loves, and her entire existence is plunged into crisis, under threat of darkness and starvation.

But soon Fei is awoken in the night by a searing noise, and sound becomes her weapon.

Richelle Mead takes readers on a triumphant journey from the peak of Fei’s jagged mountain village to the valley of Beiugo, where a startling truth and an unlikely romance will change her life forever...

MY THOUGHTS

I loved Vampire Academy, and Bloodlines even more. I'm not really interested in Mead's other works, but this one intrigued me. I haven't read a lot of books dealing with Chinese folklore and I always want to try new genres out, it would be a good idea to read this one. However, it doesn't seem to be a long book (272 pages *sighs*) so I'll just read it as an ebook. Even if for once, the cover is gorgeous for one of Mead's books!

The Revolution of Ivy | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

Title: The Revolution of Ivy (The Book of Ivy #2)
Author: Amy Engel
Published: November 3rd 2015 by Entangled Teen

Goodreads summary: Ivy Westfall is beyond the fence and she is alone. Abandoned by her family and separated from Bishop Lattimer, Ivy must find a way to survive on her own in a land filled with countless dangers, both human and natural. She has traded a more civilized type of cruelty--forced marriages and murder plots--for the bare-knuckled brutality required to survive outside Westfall's borders.

But there is hope beyond the fence, as well. And when Bishop reappears in Ivy's life, she must decide if returning to Westfall to take a final stand for what she believes is right is worth losing everything she's fought for.

MY THOUGHTS

I really enjoyed the Book of Ivy, even if it was a tad predictable. Ivy was an amazing character, if at first she believed everything her family taught her, she started to doubt when she met Bishop. She was so brave and selfless at the end of the first book. I totally fell for the romance and can't wait for both characters to be together again (fingers crossed). I hope it'll be a kick-ass book!

Have you read the Book of Ivy? What did you think of it? Are you excited for this one? Which book(s) are you waiting for this Wednesday?

Winter | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

Title: Winter (The Lunar Chronicles #4)
Author: Marissa Meyer
Published: November 10th by Feiwel and Friends

Goodreads summary: Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend–the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?

MY THOUGHTS

What can I tell you, except that this is the book I've been waiting for since Cress was released? I need it in my life since then, but sadly, it wasn't published in February (which seems so far away)... I hope this book will be worth it and live up to my expectations, because it is the last book... I can't express my feelings, because I'm a little too excited (more than for Queen of Shadows, so I'm scared).

Are you excited for this book? What do you think of the Lunar Chronicles? Which book are you waiting for this Wednesday?

Illuminae | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

Title: Illuminae (The Illuminae Files #1)
Author: Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff
Published: October 20th 2015 by Knopf Books for Young Readers

Goodreads summary: This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

MY THOUGHTS

The synopsis sounds sooooo intriguing. Every person who got an early copy of this book said it was amazing and it sounds amazing! This book really looks like one Kaufman can write, because of the Starbound trilogy. Because I know the work of this author, I'm really looking forward to read this, and to discover Jay Kristoff.

Are you excited for this book? Have you read other books by this author? What are you waiting for this wednesday?

Ice Like Fire | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

Title: Ice Like Fire (Snow Like Ashes #2)
Author: Sara Raasch
Published: October 13th 2015  by Balzer + Bray

Goodreads summary: It’s been three months since the Winterians were freed and Spring’s king, Angra, disappeared—thanks largely to the help of Cordell.

Meira just wants her people to be safe. When Cordellan debt forces the Winterians to dig their mines for payment, they unearth something powerful and possibly dangerous: Primoria’s lost chasm of magic. Theron sees this find as an opportunity—with this much magic, the world can finally stand against threats like Angra. But Meira fears the danger the chasm poses—the last time the world had access to so much magic, it spawned the Decay. So when the king of Cordell orders the two on a mission across the kingdoms of Primoria to discover the chasm’s secrets, Meira plans to use the trip to garner support to keep the chasm shut and Winter safe—even if it means clashing with Theron. But can she do so without endangering the people she loves?

Mather just wants to be free. The horrors inflicted on the Winterians hang fresh and raw in Januari—leaving Winter vulnerable to Cordell’s growing oppression. When Meira leaves to search for allies, he decides to take Winter’s security into his own hands. Can he rebuild his broken kingdom and protect them from new threats?

As the web of power and deception weaves tighter, Theron fights for magic, Mather fights for freedom—and Meira starts to wonder if she should be fighting not just for Winter, but for the world.

MY THOUGHTS

I hadn't heard a lot about Snow like Ashes, I was pleasently surprised when I loved it so much! I like how the author based the kingdoms upon seasons, I find it quite interesting. Even if there is a love triangle, I'm not too bothered about it yet, it actually made sense, even if I'm team Theron! Meira is such a strong character, all she ever wanted to do was for her kingdom. I'm really looking forward to see where this series is going, I'm sure it will be epic and I'll have a book hangover after this one!

Did you read the amazing book that is Snow like Ashes? What did you think of it? Are you excited for Ice like Fire? Which book(s) are you waiting for this Wednesday?

The Sword of Summer | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

Title: The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard #1)
Author: Rick Riordan
Published: October 6th 2015 by Disney Hyperion Books

Goodreads summary: Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother’s mysterious death, he’s lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers. One day, he’s tracked down by a man he’s never met—a man his mother claimed was dangerous. The man tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god. The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years. When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision. Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die . . .

MY THOUGHTS

Rick Riordan's books about mythology are always great, that's not secret. I have high expectations for this one, because it's Norse mythology, aka one of the most interesting, in my opinion. I like that it will take place in Boston, it changes from New York, and that the main character has to die (Walhalla ♥).

Title: Six of Crows (The Dregs #1)
Author: Leigh Bardugo

A convict with a thirst for revenge. A sharpshooter who can't walk away from a wager. A runaway with a privileged past. A spy known as the Wraith. A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums. A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.

Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz's crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don't kill each other first.

MY THOUGHTS

The Grisha trilogy is one of my favourite fantasy series out there. I love how it is inspired from Russian culture, the magic system, the plot and everything. I was so excited when I heard Leigh Bardugo was planning to write other books set in this world. I might reread the entire Grisha trilogy before I dive into this book, because there will never be enough of the Darkling! Moreover, this book sounds epic.

A New Hope | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases.

Title: A New Hope: The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy (Star Wars Illustrated Novels #1)

Author: Alexandra Bracken

Published: September 22nd 2015 by Disney LucasFilm Press

Goodreads summary: Acclaimed, New York Times best-selling author Alexandra Bracken delivers a captivating retelling of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope like you've never experienced before, infusing the iconic, classic tale of good versus evil with a unique perspective and narrative style that will speak directly to today's young readers while enhancing the Star Wars experience for core fans of the saga.

This illustrated novel is the first in the highly-anticipated series and features richly detailed art by celebrated Star Wars concept artist Iain McCaig. Fans old and new will be delighted by this beautifully crafted book and the unexpected twists in this retelling of a beloved story.

MY THOUGHTS

When I saw Alexandra Bracken was writing a book based on Star Wars, I got so excited. I loved her work in the Darkest Minds and I can't wait to discover Passenger. I don't remember much about the Star Wars movies, to be honest, so I think it will almost be a new story to me. I read the first three chapters online and I'm pretty confident it will be epic, the introduction put me in the mood right away. I probably won't read the other books in this series, it's just that I think the equation Alexandra Bracken + Star Wars will be a success.

Walk on Earth a Stranger | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine where I discuss the upcoming releases that I'm most excited for.

Title: Walk on Earth a Stranger (The Gold Seer Trilogy #1)

Author: Rae Carson

Published: September 22th 2015 by Greenwillow Books

Goodreads summary: Lee Westfall has a secret. She can sense the presence of gold in the world around her. Veins deep beneath the earth, pebbles in the river, nuggets dug up from the forest floor. The buzz of gold means warmth and life and home—until everything is ripped away by a man who wants to control her. Left with nothing, Lee disguises herself as a boy and takes to the trail across the country. Gold was discovered in California, and where else could such a magical girl find herself, find safety? Walk on Earth a Stranger, the first book in this new trilogy, introduces—as only Rae Carson can—a strong heroine, a perilous road, a fantastical twist, and a slow-burning romance. Includes a map and author’s note on historical research.

MY THOUGHTS

I didn't finish The Girl of Fire and Thorns to be honest, the main character annoyed me and the plot was really slow (um unpopular opinion here!). However, I wanted to give this author another chance, because the premise of this book intrigues me. Also, I watched a western movie a few weeks ago, now I really want to know more about America at this time period. I think historical fiction and fantasy could be a great mix here. Lee's power makes me think a little of Hazel's in The Heroes of Olympus, by the way!

MY THOUGHTS

I really like this series, especially the photographs that really add to the story. I'm wondering how it will wrap up. However, I will need a recap of Hollow City because I don't really remember what happened. Moreover, I can't wait to see what Jacob will choose: stay with the Peculiars or with his family?

Queen of Shadows & Vengeance Road | Waiting on Wednesday

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly feature hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine in which we discuss our most anticipated upcoming releases. Personally, I always speak of books released on the next Tuesday, but that's not everyone's case.

Title: Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass #4)

Author: Sarah J. Maas

Publisher: Bloomsbury USA Children

Release date: September 1st 2015

Goodreads summary: Sarah J. Maas's New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass series reaches new heights in this sweeping fourth volume.

Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she's at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past...

She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die just to see her again. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen's triumphant return.

Celaena’s epic journey has captured the hearts and imaginations of millions across the globe. This fourth volume will hold readers rapt as Celaena’s story builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.

MY THOUGHTS

The answer is really obvious. I've read the three first books in this series, and it kept getting better and better. I've been anticipating this book since I finished Heir of Fire, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I've never been disappointed by Sarah J. Maas, I know I'll love it!

Title: Vengeance Road

Author: Erin Bowman

Publisher: HMH Books for Young Readers

Release date: September 1st 2015

Goodreads summary: When Kate Thompson’s father is killed by the notorious Rose Riders for a mysterious journal that reveals the secret location of a gold mine, the eighteen-year-old disguises herself as a boy and takes to the gritty plains looking for answers and justice. What she finds are devious strangers, dust storms, and a pair of brothers who refuse to quit riding in her shadow. But as Kate gets closer to the secrets about her family, she gets closer to the truth about herself and must decide if there's room for love in a heart so full of hate.

In the spirit of True Grit, the cutthroat days of the Wild West come to life for a new generation.

MY THOUGHTS

I've never read a novel set in the Wild West before, I'll confess that I'm really curious about that. I've read a lot of early reviews of this book, and so many people seemed to have loved it. I just want to jump on that train and see what it's all about.

Are you excited for these books (especially QoS)? What books are you most excited about this wednesday? Let me know!
